Submission Guidelines

The guideliens below outline the submission process for any RPGSU event, either online or offline. On submitting, you agree to follow these rules. Failing to do so may cause your run to get rejected. If your submission is accepted and you need to change details regarding your submission, please inform a member of staff. These guidelines do not overrule the Terms of Agreement & Code of Conduct, but rather are in addition to those. Please make sure you have familiarised yourself with both before submitting your showcase. These guidelines and any other rule documents may be updated at any point. Please read this document as details may change periodically. These are only guidelines, and exceptions can and will apply. If you’re unsure about anything at all, please reach out to anyone from the scheduling team in Discord. The games committee & scheduling team has the right to accept or reject any game on any basis.

Submission Process

Submissions are managed and processed through Oengus, an online event management tool. In order to submit and run in the marathon, you will be required to join our Discord server. Games with licensed music or that at risk of copyright strikes are only allowed if the soundtrack can be muted in game or removed by a patch. If your game isn't at risk of copyright strikes, but is often claimed upon uploading on Youtube, the team would be grateful if you could let us know so we could mute the audio in advance. All attendees including runners are required to buy an admission ticket. Please buy your ticket before the deadline for runner tickets, typically two weeks before the event.

Oengus Guideline

In order to place your submission through Oengus, you need to create an account. Upon doing so, begin by adding your availability, it is crucial for the scheduling team. Times on Oengus are automatically converted to your timezone. Make sure to outline your availability as detailed as possible. You can add multiple availabilities for each day of the marathon (ex: 18th of October, from 8am to 4pm, 19th of October, all day). Add any further availability comments in the box under it, if there are any considerations the schedule team should account for that can't be conveyed throught the timetable. Afterwards, fill out the form with the games you intend to submit. Depending on the marathon, there might be a limit to the number of games or categories per game that are allowed to be submitted.

Video Proof

All submissions require video proof recorded by the person submitting.
  • A submission video does not necessarily need to be a PB or a commentated run, though a showcase of commentary can contribute to the opinion of the selection committee.
  • Submitting a VOD that has been taken at another speedrunning event is also allowed.
  • Please make sure that your video is available to everyone i.e. no paywalls, private videos etc.

Estimate

While submitting your run, you’ll be asked to give an estimate based on how long the run would take to perform. This estimate has to follow the following guidelines:
  • The estimate is checked using the submission video; this video should not be slower than the submitted estimate. No submission is accepted without an acceptable submission video. The estimate may be requested to be lowered closer to the event, as long as you can prove that you are capable of finishing a run under estimate.
  • Your personal best has to be faster than your estimate.
  • Should the submitted run not have a time faster than the estimate, make sure to show evidence of a time faster than said estimate.
  • Your estimate should include the waiting on credits to roll if needed. Please put information about this in your category description.
  • We recommend doing the intro/outro and shoutouts while the timer is running. But if you need some extra time for this (for example your run is less than 5 min or heavy on explanations of tricks at the start) then take this in account for your estimate. Don’t forget to mention this in your category description should this be the case.
  • Make sure your estimate is based on RTA instead of IGT. This is due to the marathon using the RTA timing method for the runs showcased.
  • You are allowed to adjust your estimate up to 1 month prior to the event. This includes both estimates going down and/or up and also counts for time spent on incentives. In case significant changes to the run occur after the adjustment period, feel free to notify the scheduling team.

Mature Games

Games with mature language or small amounts of gore are allowed, so long as the runner consciously handles the situation, examples include:
  • Not bringing attention to inappropriate language or behavior of the characters.
  • Talking over the scene
  • Turning off subtitles.
  • Letting the tech crew know they need to mute a cutscene.
Games with high amounts of (unskippable) gore or explicit (unskippable) sexual content will be avoided as much as possible.Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.

On-site Hardware Specifications

  • Remember to bring any equipment you need such as a specific console/Laptop, game, cables and controller. You do not need to bring your TV, capture card or PC.
  • Emulation is permitted so long as it complies with the leaderboard rules of the specific game. However, do try to not make it apparent that you're playing on an emulator on stream. (I.E. disable the "saved to memory card" pop-up)
If any questions regarding run acceptance and/or rejection arise, feel free to contact the scheduling team.
